Summer’s nearly over in New York, but the water’s still warm.
My best friend and I had planned to spend our penultimate August weekend hiking Breakneck Ridge, but instead took a detour to Hudson River Expeditions in Cold Spring, where we rented a tandem kayak and spent an hour enjoying this view:
Ominous clouds smudged against the beautiful backdrop of the Hudson Highlands meant that we had the cove nearly all to ourselves. Tranquil waters and sub-80F temps made for ideal kayaking conditions.
How to get there:
Take Metro-North to Cold Spring and make your way to Hudson River Expeditions on Main Street a short walk away.
Single kayaks start at $25/hr, tandem kayaks @ $35/hr. SUPs available for rent too!
What to bring:
A drysack, plenty of water and snacks, a camera, and an eagerness to play in the water.
