San Juan Capistrano Mission

South of Orange County, past Laguna Beach and Dana Point and en route to San Diego lies a cultural oasis of sorts: San Juan Capistrano Mission.

It houses ruins of a Spanish Mission founded in 1776 by Spanish Catholics of the Franciscan order, as well as a present-day parish church (Mission Basilica San Juan Capistrano) and a (now-defunct) winery that produced Alta California’s first wine.
